IMAGE WORKSPACE

Understand the task

An image format describes how pixels are stored. PNG supports transparency and lossless pixel storage. JPEG uses lossy compression and has no alpha channel. WebP supports transparency, but this converter exports lossy WebP. Changing the format does not create new detail.

What this tool does

Convert static PNG, JPEG and WebP images locally, with quality controls and a chosen JPEG background.

How to use

  1. Choose image
  2. Choose an image and output format. For JPEG or WebP set quality; for JPEG also choose the background. Create a preview, compare dimensions and bytes, then download.
  3. Downloads re-encode pixels and remove source metadata. JPEG fills transparent areas with the selected background.

Limits and common errors

Quality affects JPEG and WebP, not PNG. A PNG made from a JPEG retains the JPEG’s existing artifacts. Re-encoding strips metadata and may increase file size.

Questions and answers

Why did a transparent area turn white?

JPEG cannot store transparency. The tool fills it with the selected background, white by default. Choose PNG or WebP to retain transparent pixels.
