How it works

A fraction a/b represents a divided by b. The denominator cannot be zero. Equivalent fractions name the same value; reducing removes common factors.

What you can do

Calculate with signed fractions, mixed numbers and finite decimals. Compare two values, simplify a batch or find available Unicode fraction symbols. Arithmetic shows an exact result, mixed form and a labelled decimal approximation.

How to use it

  1. Choose an operation. Enter one value per line, such as 1/2 and 1/3. For a mixed number use -2 3/4; division and comparison require exactly two values.
  2. Calculate, inspect the result details, then copy or download TXT. Ctrl/⌘ + Enter also calculates. Editing clears old results; Undo restores input and settings.

Errors and limits

Use decimal points, not decimal commas. Commas and semicolons separate values. Mixed fractional parts must be proper. Unsupported Unicode fractions keep their ordinary a/b form. The details describe the first simplified value.

Limits: 100,000 input characters per box, 100 digits per numeric token, 200 input values and 200,000 output characters. Fraction numerators and denominators and sequence terms are limited to 5000 digits. Scientific notation is not accepted.

Calculations run in a separate browser worker. Cancel stops the job; the 8-second time limit also covers worker loading. Try a smaller batch after a timeout.

Frequently asked questions

Why does 1/2 + 1/3 equal 5/6?

Use a common denominator: 1/2 = 3/6 and 1/3 = 2/6. Their numerators add to 5. The tool also shows the cross-multiplication formula for two operands.

Are my numbers uploaded?

No. File reading and calculation happen in this browser. Input is not stored in the URL or sent to a calculation service. Text files must be UTF-8.
