Checkerboard areas indicate transparency. Previews fit the screen; downloads keep the displayed pixel dimensions.

Image exports re-encode pixels; Base64 encode/decode preserves original bytes. BMP 1/4/8/16-bit and GIF reduce colors. BMP 4/8-bit palettes use up to 8/128 colors. JPEG fills transparency.

IMAGE WORKSPACE

Understand the task

ASCII art replaces image cells with a dark-to-light character ramp. The image is sampled into a grid; character aspect compensates for glyphs being taller than they are wide. Brightness and contrast control which ramp symbols appear. Binary mode uses only 1 and 0.

What this tool does

ASCII characters · Binary characters · Text → FIGlet ASCII art

How to use

  1. For a picture, load a file and choose ASCII or binary characters. For text lettering, choose FIGlet and enter printable ASCII.
  2. Adjust character width and brightness for a picture, or choose one of five fonts for FIGlet. Generate the preview.
  3. Check the text and PNG preview. Download TXT for characters or the alternate PNG output for appearance.

Limits and common errors

Text art uses five locally bundled FIGlet fonts and printable ASCII input (2,000 characters). Download TXT or the PNG preview; fonts are not loaded from remote URLs.

Use a monospace font when pasting. Plain TXT carries characters but no colors or font settings. PNG keeps the rendered appearance. This tool samples one pixel per cell; it does not reproduce original photo colors or infer outlines hidden by a low resolution.
